China's Figure Skaters Face Investigation Following Holding Toy Missile at Competition

The International Skating Union have launched an investigation following a pair of Chinese figure skaters were seen with what looked like a toy ballistic missile during an international skating competition.

Broadcast video showed the skaters waiting with a sizable prop in the form of a rocket labeled “DF-61” as they awaited their scores in the “kiss and cry” zone on Saturday.

This model represents a new China-produced ground-launched long-range weapon designed for transporting atomic warheads, that had been displayed at a military parade last month.

Officials have acknowledged of an unsuitable soft toy seems to have been one of the objects thrown on to the rink by spectators following a routine at the ISU Figure Skating Grand Prix Cup of China event,” the organization stated via a release.

The item was then handled by the skaters after their performance. The ISU apologizes for the incident and will look into it more deeply.”

Ren and Xing placed eighth of 10 pairs in the ice dance event, with the victory going to Madison Chock and Evan Bates of the United States.
