The vote against the student leader reached the required super-majority to oust him from his position, according to an announcement from the organization. Contentious Posts The dispute began after Mr Abaraonye reportedly shared messages on social media that seemed to welcome the killing of the American conservative figure, who was shot dead while speaking at a college in the United States. According to reports, one social media message reportedly stated "Charlie Kirk got shot loool" - using an elongated version of the acronym for 'laughing out loud'. The president-elect is also said to have written in a WhatsApp chat with fellow students appearing to express approval of the event. Vote Outcome The no-confidence motion was conducted over the recent days, with outcomes revealed on Tuesday. Official notices indicated that over twelve hundred votes were cast supporting no confidence, while 501 were against the motion. The notice confirmed that the future president was deemed to have stepped down in accordance with the society's regulations. The student society announced the outcome of the no-confidence vote on this week Election Controversies Proceedings were informally suspended early on the previous day after the election official was allegedly subjected to "obstruction, intimidation, and unwarranted hostility" from multiple individuals. In a statement, the student claimed that the vote tally had been stopped because electoral officials believed "no valid outcome could be reached as a result of procedural failures". His response unequivocally denied that any person acting for the student had participated in threatening or obstructive conduct. Continuing Controversy The president-elect stated that extremely serious issues had been submitted to the governing body and that he continued as president-elect. His comment added that George was "proud and thankful to have the backing of significantly more than half of university members" who supported a "safe election and resist attempts to subvert democracy". Opponents have said that any failure to remove him would "demonstrate internationally that the society has prioritized politics over principles". The conservative activist was fatally shot while speaking at a college in September External Reactions On recently, Mikey McCoy presented an open letter to the society on a related program broadcast. The letter accused the union of becoming a institution where "student leaders publicly celebrate the assassination of a political opponent". The statement warned that if Mr Abaraonye were to remain in post, Kirk's allies would "personally contact every American political speaker who has ever spoken at the society and urge them never again to lend their name". The society had previously condemned Mr Abaraonye's comments after the activist's killing and stated that concerns submitted about him had been referred for official review. The president-elect had been one of multiple members to discuss with Kirk at the union in May.
